Do You Need Scotchgard?
Protective finishes for carpets:
What is Stain Guard, Teflon and Scotchgard™:
They are basically carpet protectors we will refer to them as ScotchGard. ScotchGard is a professionally applied deep-penetrating protective finish for fabric carpets, rugs, furniture, and other fabrics. When applied correctly StainGuard penetrates deep into the fiber to form a molecular “lock” inside the fiber. Our ScotchGuard protective shield effectively resists stains and makes cleaning MUCH more effective.
How does protector work?
Fluor chemical treatments are designed to improve fabric and carpet and fibers’ resistance to water-based stains and oil, as well as soiling from everyday use.
How long does the protection from these products last?
Under “normal” conditions and with reasonable care, Protectors will provide long lasting benefits.

We’ll help you get your damage clean and restore. All you have to do is Make The Appointment!
AllStates Restoration Services research has shown that protectors are very durable to foot traffic. However, performance will diminish somewhat over time with each hot water extraction cleaning. For optimal soil and stain protection, AllStates Restoration recommends that they be reapplied after every hot water extraction cleaning.
Does protector “waterproof” carpet?
Protector is not intended to be used as a waterproofing agent for carpet and upholstery. However, it will provide big improved resistance to water-based substances.
Does protector contain formaldehyde?
No, there is no formaldehyde in any product. The product is in a Turpene base (non-water based for better penetration into the carpet & upholstery). Once the Turpene evaporates (1.5-2 hours), the protective finish bonds into the fiber (64-72 hour cure time).
Is protector safe for children and pets?
Yes, all carpet protector products go through extensive
testing and have been safely used in homes or offices for years.
Does protector have an odor?
Protectors have an attractive light apple or peach fragrance. This fragrance will dissipate within a few days after application is complete. The fragrance serves several purposes. The base Fluor chemical (active ingredient) requires a fragrance to deal with a slight solvent odor. Also, the fragrance is effective in deodorizing malodors such as pet odors that may surface during the cleaning process.
How should carpet treated with protector be cleaned?
Regular vacuuming is essential for the Protector and helps keep dry oily residues and soil from sticking to the carpet or upholstery fibers. This makes routine vacuuming more efficient and delays the need for a general hot water extraction cleaning. For optimal soil and stain protection, Stain Master and Shaw industries recommends that protector be reapplied after every hot water extraction.
Are competitors’ products the same as protectors from AllStates Restoration
When properly applied at the carpet mill, most fluorochemical protectors will provide reliable protection. But none will perform better than protector.
What do we recommend?
There’s no doubt that regular, professional carpet cleanings benefit both you and your carpet. Removing unwanted contaminates from your carpet promotes a healthier indoor environment. Properly maintaining your carpet prolongs its useful life. We can help you determine how often you should clean your carpets during your cleaning visit. Here are a few tips.
Soil buried in your carpet acts like an abrasive, accelerating the wear of face yarns, and soils are much harder to remove when they’ve been ground in over an extended period of time.
Clean your carpet sooner rather than later.
Vacuum regularly, especially in high traffic area and close to the doors where soils can accumulate.
Clean up spills right when they happen.
Use products intended for use on carpets only. Try water or carbonated water first. If the spot remains use a non-residual product such as “Spot Out Blotter”.
Properly performed cleaning, even frequent cleaning, does not damage your carpet nor will it cause your carpet to soil more quickly.
ALWAYS feel free to give us a call if you have questions about the care of your carpet or Stain Guard. 732-722-5211
